A Wedding at Melbourne's Rooftop Garden Venue

Meet Melbourne couple Montana and David, who celebrated their love of the outdoors and one another on a rooftop in the heart of Melbourne City.

Be inspired by the twist of greenery and pop of colour in the bustling city at Crown Aviary.

How did you and your love meet?

I held a New Year's Eve party and he'd been invited by a friend of a friend.

We didn't really chat but both got invited to an Australia Day barbecue a few weeks later.

David ended up asking for my number at the barbecue and took me on a date to (what turned out to be) our favourite Mexican restaurant.

The rest is history.

How did he propose?

We were in Hawaii and had hired a car for the day to travel around the island.

We were on day 7 of a 10 day trip so I was definitely wasn't expecting anything.

We pulled into a beach spot and David made an excuse of wanting some food from his bag in the boot (he was actually putting the ring in his pocket!).

He suggested we take a photo with the mountains behind us and propped the GoPro on the boot to capture the moment. He got down on one knee and secretly filmed the whole thing!

It was such a special time.

We were in the middle of nowhere with no internet or phone reception, so for those few hours, we were the only people in the world to know what had just happened.

Describe Your Wedding Theme & Colours

We are both outdoors people so we loved the idea of getting married on a rooftop.

The ceremony was held on the rooftop of Crown followed by predinner drinks with live acoustic music.

It was a very modern wedding with Montana walking down to Etta James - At Last.

The colours were bright pastels focusing on purple (the colour of the bridesmaids).

How did you plan your wedding & find your vendors?

We did a bit of research through Instagram and asked lots of questions to our friends that had recently got married.

We tried to be really organised so we got to choose the wedding vendors we wanted.

We got engaged 18 months before our wedding so we had plenty of time

What was your favourite Wedding Moment?

That moment of seeing each other for the first time when I walked down the aisle was just breath taking. Seeing all your favourite people in one place to celebrate your love and relationship is truly humbling. Honestly speaking, the whole day was so amazing. You just want to bottle that feeling and keep it forever.

Who was your favourite Wedding Vendor & Why?

All our suppliers were fantastic and I wouldn't change any of them.

Our music team - led by Eddy Mac at One More Song Entertainment truly made the day.

We both love music and Eddy's attention to detail was above and beyond.

Steph at Melbourne Event Floral did a wonderful job with the colour palette brief and her 24 square meter floral wall behind the bridal table was breath taking.

What is your advice to couples planning their wedding?

Don't sweat the small stuff. I can honestly say I can't remember the font of my place cards or what colour the groomsmens pocket squares were.

What I do remember is dancing with my husband and smiling from ear to ear with my family and friends.

BUT be organised where you can.

Don't leave stuff to the last minute because you want to enjoy the day and not be consumed by other things.
