Well-known now for her clean, elegant and timeless wedding make-up style, professional Sydney make-up artist Omilia Toma admits she didn’t always take such a refined approach.

“When I was a kid, I would go into my Mum’s make-up, play with it and ruin all her lipsticks,” she reminisces.

Omilia’s early fascination with make-up stayed with her though, and when she finished school her passion soon became a successful career. Indeed 13 years later, she offers bridal make-up, make-up lessons and professional make-up for special occasions and photoshoots on location and from her Oran Park studio.

Omilia set down her brushes to chat to us about bridal make-up trends, timeless looks and her favourite make-up brands.

Where are you based and what locations do you service?

I am located in Oran Park in Sydney, but I’m open to travelling to any destination and location.

When did you personally start using make-up and how did it become your profession?

When I was a kid I would go into my Mum’s make-up, play with it and ruin all her lipsticks. My technique improved, but my fascination remained the same and I was always offering to make-up family members for special occasions. Then, when I finished school I did a short course, with the idea of getting a job while I was studying Tourism, and from that I turned make-up artistry into a career.

How long have you been working in the industry, and how have you seen wedding make-up trends change over the years?

I have been in the industry for 13 years and have seen trends constantly changing. I like to stay up-to-date with make-up fashions, but at the end of the day it’s my particular make-up style and art that most people are drawn to.

What trends are you seeing in bridal make-up at the moment?

Clean, timeless looks and the ‘no make-up look’ are popular at the moment. So are brightened eyes and under eyes with blush — blush is definitely on-trend.

How do you manage different skin-tones and complexions?

As a make-up professional, I can cater to all skin-tones and complexions — it’s all about knowing your colour palette and undertones.

Do you have any preferred make-up brands that you work with?

I use high-end, high-quality products. Giorgio Armani, Dior, Nars, Charlotte Tilbury and Benefit are some of my go-to brands.

What makes your bridal make-up service unique?

I believe every make-up artist is different and offers their own unique style of artistry. My signature style enhances the look of all my brides with a clean, timeless look.

How would you describe the brides that you connect with the most?

All of my brides are special, but those that are fun, bubbly, calm and trusting are the ones I connect with the most.
