Hair and Make-up are the first steps of the day to get you one step closer to walking down that aisle.

Style With A Twist is a Bridal Hair Stylist who works with her brides to customise their hairstyle to suit their face shape, dress, and theme of the day.

We spoke with Suzannah Twist to learn more about Style With A Twist and get some tips for Brides leading up to their wedding day.

Tell us a little about Style with a Twist.

With over 19 years of experience servicing 100's of Brides, Suzanah Twist from Style with a Twist is an Award Winning Bridal and Wedding Hair Artist, who has also worked on The Voice Australia 2015, Project Runway Australia, and 2019 MBFWA.

What is your favourite part of being a Bridal Hair Stylist?

I love the transformation of my clients and Brides feeling amazing on their special day watching their whole look coming together. I love being creative and being able to achieve what they want.

What advice would you give to Brides-to-be when choosing a Bridal Hair Stylist?

Do your research, check reviews, and photos of past brides and see if the stylist can achieve what you are after.

Make sure you have a trial before your day so that you can iron out any kinks before the day this will include timing and schedules for the day.

What is your favourite Bridal Hair Style you have created?

A beautiful bride I had 3 years ago, Camile. It suited her perfectly. (Pictured below)

What hairstyles do you specialise in?

I am pretty much an all-rounder and can create whatever a bride askes for.

What preparation do you recommend to bridal parties when getting their hair styled?

I have the following list published on my website so that brides and bridal parties know what to do.

"How do I prepare my hair for the Trial/Wedding day?"

The preparation of the hair is very important if you have hair extensions you can can use these same steps to prepare those as well.

You will need to shampoo your hair the night before with a non-silicon based shampoo.
Please refrain from using shampoos like Pantene, Tresemme, Palmolive, and Sunsilk as this will make the hair too slippery.
Shampoo your hair twice and then only add conditioner to the ends of the hair.
Blowdry the hair as smooth as possible (please do NOT use a straightener)
Avoid using any products as this can make the hair heavy and hard to hold into place.
On the day wear a button-up shirt or a silk/satin robe that way you can easily get your formal attire on without disturbing the hairstyle.

"What to bring to the trial"

Coming prepared will make the trial run smoothly. Please have handy a photo of your and your bridesmaid's dresses, hair inspiration photos, and anything else you may be wearing in your hair like hairpieces and accessories and hair extensions. you can bring your veil but it is not essential as I have a long and short veil we can try with. if we need to measure your veil for the length you may wish to bring it with you.

What tips would you offer to Brides-to-be when choosing a hairstyle?

Don’t choose your style until you have worked out what dress you are wearing on the day as the hairstyle may change depending on your attire.

What is your point of difference?

Planning a wedding can be quite stressful so I like to help my brides organise their mornings so that they are ready for when the photographer arrives.

I will liaise with the makeup artist prior to the day and put a schedule together so that everything runs smoothly and the bride isn’t stressed in the morning.

How many Bridal party members can you style for one wedding?

Depending on the style and the hair I’m dealing with I have done up to 10 people in on my own. I also have 2 assistants so I can cater up to 15-20 people in one morning.

On average, how long do you recommend Brides-to-be to allow for per person for hairstyling?

I usually recommend 1-1.5 hours for the bride depending on the style and hair and 1 hour for everyone else.
