A romantic at heart, a career in wedding planning seemed a natural step for Melanie Roberts, the founder and creative inspiration behind Melanie Jane Weddings & Events.
In fact, such was her vision, even a pandemic didn’t phase her, and she and her team have grown to provide their stunning wedding planning, styling, floristry and hire services to couples from Brisbane to Toowoomba, the Gold Coast, the Sunshine Coast, the Whitsundays and even interstate.
“No event is too big or too small,” Melanie says. “We work on each with great attention to detail, care and a little thing I like to call ‘love flair’!”
Tell us about your Wedding Planning services.
Melanie Jane Weddings & Events offer a bespoke planning, coordination and styling service to our couples. We work with their vision and see it through to fruition, ensuring that through each stage they feel confident that their day is absolutely going to reflect “them”. We provide a range of services, from planning and coordination to styling and floral styling, balloon installation and design, and offer an ever-growing range of hire items.
How did you get started in the wedding industry?
After many years of planning, and dreaming of someday opening up my own business in the wedding industry, I decided to follow my dream of offering luxury wedding packages in Bali, Indonesia. We were getting ready to book our flights, to go and meet with our suppliers and venues, when COVID-19 hit. When it became apparent that we wouldn’t get to Bali anytime soon, we pivoted the direction of the business, and now offer our services in Brisbane and its surrounding areas.
Where are you based and what locations do you service?
We service Brisbane, Toowoomba, the Gold Coast, the Sunshine Coast, and even the Whitsundays and interstate.
How do the seasons, or the time of year, influence wedding styling?
We see a lot of intimate beach ceremonies taking place in the warmer months, a lot of warm cosy fireplaces and bonfires burning during the cooler months, and a lot of indoor venues being booked during the months where rain is likely to be forecast.
What are some trends you are loving at the moment?
I absolutely love the use of colour in floral styling at the moment, and also mis-matched colourful wedding dresses. When done right, they create a point of interest and a standout feature in wedding photos.
What's the best way to choose colours and a wedding theme?
My wedding go-to is Pinterest. I tell all my couples to send me through the ideas they love, and then we work through this with them ensuring harmonisation and flow of colours and theming. That, along with looking at the venue and the spaces they will be utilising on their day, helps us to put together their styling and theming story.
Do you offer wedding packages?
Yes, we offer wedding planning packages and ‘On The Day’ coordination packages. We will also be offering elopement and micro-wedding packages in the near future.
What makes your service unique?
Our approach is quite personable, and I let all my clients know this from day dot! After all, we work closely together to make sure all wants, needs and must-haves are covered, so we need to get to know them on a personal level. We tell them to think of us as an unofficial bridesmaid!
Our styling service is also unique, in that we can work with a lot of different ideas and concepts, and are not restrained by just the one 'generalised' look and feel. We are all about creating art and magical moments.
What was your favourite wedding?
The one where we were given a budget and told to make it romantic and magical but to keep the details a secret! It was probably the most rewarding experience that I've had the joy of planning, and also the most over-the-top fabulous in my eyes.
How would you describe the couples that you connect with the most?
They’re the couples who want to have fun, are down to earth and are open to ideas.
