She’s organised elaborate weddings in some of the most spectacular places in Australia, but a smile crosses Alicia Lockyer’s face when we ask her favourite.

“I only married recently,” she explains. “So, I would have to say my own.”

As she goes on to describe the picture-perfect location — on one of the exclusive private estates she’s aligned with — it’s clear that, for Alicia, wedding planning is as much a passion as a profession.

We took Alica aside, to talk elopements, micro-weddings and how she takes the ‘stress’ out of planning a wedding.

Tell us about your wedding services.

We specialise in luxe, all-inclusive elopement and micro-wedding experiences in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland.

Tell us about the properties and wedding venues you are associated with. How did you establish these connections?

We’ve forged partnerships with a portfolio of venues and private estates, located in both the Glass House Mountains and Maleny regions, who share our focus on the local area and our high standards of service and delivery.

How did you get started in the wedding industry? Was it something that appealed to you from childhood?

My career in the wedding industry started 12 years ago, when I made the leap from corporate events to planning weddings in the magical Whitsundays. It was a dream come true and opened so many career doors for me, leading to many destination wedding planning roles in Australia and now to running my own business.

What sizes and styles of weddings to you specialise in?

Glass House Country Weddings is a boutique destination wedding planning company, specialising in creating elevated, all-inclusive micro-wedding and elopement experiences for up to 50 guests.

Do you offer wedding planning packages? What's included?

Yes. Our planning and coordination combine with each package, so that couples have one point of contact, from their initial enquiry through to the conclusion of their wedding day.

As a wedding planner how do you ensure that each wedding reflects the couple? How can they add their own flair?

Whilst our packages are all-inclusive, the creative elements — like furniture, decor, florals, bar and styling — are all absolutely customisable, so there’s plenty of scope for a couple to add their own unique vision and personal touches to the day.

Many couples plan their own weddings, but how could they benefit from the services of a wedding planner?

A seamless experience from start to finish. We ensure that the words ‘overwhelmed’ and ‘stressed’ don’t enter our couples’ vocabulary. With our team to guide them every step of the way, we can guarantee the planning experience they truly deserve.

What advice do you have for couples looking for a Wedding Planner and a Wedding Venue? What should they consider?

I advise they book a venue that absolutely lights them up inside — they should experience a ‘feeling’ when they see it for the first time. When securing a wedding planner, they should look for someone who listens to their wants and desires for the day, and is willing to work with them to ensure this is reflected in the package they select.

Are any of your partner wedding venues pet-friendly?

Yes, all of our wedding venues allow pets to be included in the ceremony and photos.

Are your partner wedding venues located near accommodation providers?

Yes. There’s a wonderful assortment of local accommodation in the Glass House Mountains and Maleny regions, and we can definitely help with recommendations.

Have you planned any notable, or celebrity, weddings?

When I was working in the Whitsundays, I planned a wedding that featured as a big reveal, and happy ending, on a television show called Bringing Sexy Back.

Can you describe the biggest challenge you’ve encountered as a Wedding Planner?

Learning how to navigate a young business through Covid! The pandemic helped shape the direction of our business though, and the demand for luxurious, intimate celebrations and micro-weddings has continued to grow ever since.

What makes your service unique?

We are a one-stop destination for planning weddings. We allow our couples to secure the venue, package and entire vendor team in one location, and really bring the fun and enjoyment back to the wedding planning experience.

How would you describe the couples that you connect with the most?

Most of our clients appreciate nature, love animals and value quality service on their wedding day.

What was your favourite wedding? Could you paint us a picture?

I only married recently. So, I would have to say my own. We held the wedding ceremony and reception on one of the private estates we work with — set on 250 stunning rural acres and featuring 360-degree mountain views. Nature was the centrepiece, and it was a clear, crisp winter’s day — perfect conditions for a Queensland wedding.

Our guests mingled, with live music and a decadent grazing table, while we had photos taken. Then, when the moon was on full display, we treated our guests to a memorable dining experience, beneath a magical fairy-lit tunnel, with blankets and heaters to keep us warm and cosy. It was beyond our wildest dreams.
