A moment with 'The Lux Look'
ABIA meets Brisbane-based bridal hair and make-up artist Lianna Linton

As a bridal make-up artist and hairstylist Lianna Linton does what she loves, and the Brisbane professional credits her grandmother with sparking her passion early.
“My grandmother worked at the Revlon counter in Myer and I used to go in and visit her. She, and her friends at the other counters, would all give me samples,” she explains.
These days, the experienced beauty therapist and bridal make-up and hairstyling specialist is dedicated to helping her brides become the best version of themselves, using mostly natural, neutral tones to achieve a timeless aesthetic.
ABIA took a seat in Lianna’s salon chair to chat current wedding trends, go-to brands and clip-in hair extensions.

How did you get started in the wedding industry?
A friend was getting married and asked me if I would do their wedding hair and make-up. I agreed, and it was such a happy day, and I really enjoyed the experience and loved being a part of the celebration.

Where are you based and what locations do you service?
I’m located in Banyo in Brisbane, but work from Byron Bay to the tip of the Sunshine Coast and beyond. I’m also happy to travel.
When did you personally start using make-up?
When I was a little girl, my grandmother worked at the Revlon counter in Myer and I used to go in and visit her. She, and her friends at the other counters, would all give me samples and I grew to love all the smells and textures. Once, for my birthday, she did my make-up at the counter and I felt so special sitting there and it was so beautiful seeing myself all done up for the first time. I love being able to give my brides a similar experience.

About Time Co
When did you know that you wanted to be a hair and make-up professional?
It was actually my partner who encouraged me to go professional. I was a little hesitant about going into business, but he really believed in me and said I should give it a go. He made me a light-up mirror and bought me brushes and really supported me in pursuing something that he knew I loved.
How long have you been working in the industry, and how have wedding hair and make-up trends changed over the years?
I’ve been a beauty therapist since 2010 and have been full-time self-employed for the past two years. Throughout my beauty career I’ve always loved doing make-up for special occasions, but bridal work has truly become my passion. I’m loving the current trend toward elegant, refined styles — it’s all about enhancing natural beauty in a timeless way.

What trends are you seeing in bridal hair and make-up at the moment?
People are choosing more neutral and natural tones, which I absolutely love as they also age really well in photos. People want to look like an elevated version of themselves and I think that’s fantastic.
How do you manage different skin-tones and complexions?
I stock a lot of different coloured foundations. I feel like a chemist when I’m mixing and matching to find the right fit for my client.

About Time Co
Do you have any preferred brands?
For foundation my go-to is either Dior Backstage Face & Body Foundation or Estée Lauder Double Wear. I love the Dior for a medium skin-like finish and the Estée Lauder for a more matte, full-coverage look.
For everything else I mix-and-match brands, but some of my favourites are Hourglass Cosmetics, Charlotte Tilbury and Patrick Ta for eyeshadow.
What makes your service stand out?
I take a calm, grounded and personalised approach to every wedding morning. My focus is on enhancing each bride’s natural beauty, while creating a relaxed and supportive environment. Given my experience in both mobile and studio settings I can offer a luxury, yet down-to-earth, experience which combines professional artistry with genuine care and attention-to-detail. I also colour-match clip-in hair extensions for my clients, with the option to buy or hire, and provide luxury touch-up kits with full sized products.

What was your favourite wedding?
One of my favourites was a small, intimate wedding in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. The bride wanted a timeless, romantic look with soft glam and effortless waves. The morning felt so calm and full of laughter, and seeing her tear up when she looked in the mirror was a very special moment.
How would you describe the brides, or couples, you connect with the most?
I connect most with down-to-earth, kind-hearted couples who value authenticity and want to feel like the best version of themselves, not someone else. They love a relaxed morning, trust the process, and appreciate natural, polished beauty that still feels true to who they are.
