A Moment With 'the peaceful nook'

ABIA meets the creative soul behind this up-and-coming faux floral designer and hire service, based in Adelaide, South Australia.

Samantha Roccisano admits there’s a lot she loves about faux flowers, in addition to the fact that they don’t trigger her allergies.

“They’re beautiful, they’re cost effective, they’re not seasonal, they don’t wilt and they’re environmentally friendly,” the talented wedding floral designer explains.

So, in February 2022, when her life called for a career change, Samantha had an idea – one that allowed her to make the most of her flair for creativity. The Peaceful Nook, a faux-floral design and hire studio, was born and now provides stunning arrangements, bridal bouquets and décor to weddings and events in and around Adelaide.

ABIA stepped inside The Peaceful Nook, to chat to the boutique’s Creative Director about real-touch blooms, wedding arbours and cloud arrangements.

Tell us about your wedding hire and decorating services?

The Peaceful Nook is a faux-floral design and hire studio located in Adelaide. We use real-touch and premium faux flowers, that look and feel like the real thing, and are just like a fresh florist in that we custom make all our designs and arrangements. We provide these mostly on a hire basis, although our clients get to keep their wedding bouquets and buttonholes forever as keepsakes. We also have a small hire collection of backdrops, vases and LED candles.

Where are you based and what locations do you service?

We are based in the inner city of Adelaide, and travel up to 100km.

What sorts of arrangements and items do you offer for hire? Which are your most popular?

We offer custom made backdrop floral installations, ceremony arbour florals, table centrepieces and LED candles. Our backdrop florals, bud vases and flower clouds are the most popular for weddings and events.

Why do you suggest couples opt for faux flower arrangements? What are the advantages over fresh flowers?

Faux flowers are a great alternative to fresh for so many reasons! They are definitely more cost effective on a hire basis, they’re not seasonal, so we can order any colour or type of flower all year round, and they don’t wilt so they look fresh all day and night. Plus, they won’t set off any allergies and they’re environmentally friendly!

What advice do you have for couples when it comes to choosing a decorating theme?

Choose a theme or colour that represents your style the most. We love to guide and give ideas, through proposals and mood boards, to help couples choose a theme that they love!

Have you always loved to decorate? Where do you turn for inspiration?

Yes, I have always had a passion for design, creativity and fashion. I love Pinterest and Instagram, and follow faux floral designers across Europe and America for ideas and inspiration.

What trends are you seeing in flowers and decorating at the moment?

Lots of bold and bright colours with lots of volume and texture, plus large cascading backdrop installations. Bud vases and flower clouds (arrangements that sit flush on a table, or the ground, without a vessel) are also trending!

If a couple gave you ‘free reign’ to decorate their wedding what would you do?

I would first check their ideal colour scheme and rough budget, and design and create arrangements in accordance with that. Then I’d consider the location of the wedding and what I think would suit best aesthetically.

What makes your service unique?

We always try to go above and beyond in meeting our clients’ expectations, especially with regard to communication. We also understand that not everyone has a massive wedding budget, so we try to design arrangements and sizing to suit.

What was your favourite wedding?

A wedding we did recently — the colour palette was incredible, full of bright pinks and oranges. And the location, in McLaren Vale, made it a beautiful vineyard wedding!

How would you describe the couples you connect with the most?

We love it when couples give us a brief and it aligns perfectly with our favourite styles and colours — that makes us even more excited to bring their vision to life!
