Having performed ceremony music at many of Melbourne’s most popular churches and  venues, Felicia Lase of Làvely Music knows how to make both a ceremony and reception sing.

“We believe that beautiful entertainment and music start with good preparation, so we take the time to deeply understand our clients’ vision and guide them every step of the way,” she explains.

To that end, Felicia and her team combine their soulful, jazzy musical offerings as soloists, duos, string trios and a band for ceremonies, canapé hours and wedding receptions. Plus, the addition of deejaying and Master of Ceremonies services, allows them to provide their couples with a full-service offering.

We slipped behind the keyboard with the ABIA Award winner to talk ceremony specifics, writing customised wedding songs and hosting receptions in both English and Indonesian.

How did you get started in the wedding industry?

My journey in the industry started when I became the fill-in singer for a wedding band. I started to get involved in more weddings, played in many more bands and gained valuable experience in the wedding industry. In 2023, when one client booked me directly it jumpstarted Làvely Music. Since then, Làvely Music has performed at more than 60 weddings and events and played in a diverse range of churches and wedding venues in and around Melbourne. I love that I can combine my love of music and performing with the excitement of co-creating my clients’ musical wedding visions.

Where are you based and what locations do you service?

We are based in Melbourne, but are always happy to travel nationwide, or internationally.

When did you start playing music, and when did you realise you wanted to turn your talent into a business?

I started piano lessons at the ripe age of five. As a typical five-year-old I didn’t particularly love practising in front of the piano everyday, but this blossomed into a deep love of music and I went on to learn classical piano for another 11 years. I even completed Undergraduate studies in Music Production last year. I have always wanted to make music a part of my career and after trying a few different avenues, I fell in love with the world of weddings. I have always loved telling stories through my music and it’s a special feeling to be able to do this for someone's big day.

How did you get into deejaying and MC hosting?

I have always loved public speaking and, given the genuine care I feel for my clients, the transition to hosting weddings as an MC came naturally. I always aim to bring a fun and relaxed atmosphere to every wedding, so anyone of any age can enjoy themselves. Clients are drawn to my friendly personality, organised nature and bilingual talents — I speak both Indonesian and English.
I don't personally DJ, but Làvely Music partners with talented deejays in the industry to offer a complete full day package. The deejays I work with have performed at hundreds of weddings and events, have worked both locally and internationally, and are still actively deejaying at local clubs, so they have the experience and professionalism required of a wedding DJ.

What genres of music do you play, and which are your favourite?

We have a distinctly soulful and jazzy sound, but we do play a wide range of songs, from ballads to classical and pop. One of our favourite things to do is put our own twist on a song from a different genre. Recently, we played Taylor Swift's country rock song ‘I'm Only Me When I'm With You’ and turned it into a heartfelt ballad, played on violin and piano for the bridal entrance. We’ve also done string versions of popular Bollywood and R&B songs. We always love a good music challenge and appreciate it when the clients trust us enough to request them.

What are some of the most unusual, or unique, wedding ideas you’ve come across?

Once, a client requested a medley of seven different songs for the entrance of the bridal party — a different song for each person. We had to work hard to make sure that the songs flowed smoothly from one to another and to ensure the timing was right. We made it in the end, but it was truly one to remember.

What should couples look for in a wedding entertainer and host?

Looking for the right wedding entertainment is like looking for the right partner, you don't just want someone who looks and sounds good, but someone who genuinely cares, supports your vision and celebrates with you every step of the way.
This idea is at the heart of Làvely Music. I believe that good sounding music is only half the job, the other half involves the connection, guidance and care we bring to each client and event. I take the time to truly understand each couple’s vision, offer honest and thoughtful guidance (even on things beyond music) and craft a personalised musical experience that reflects their love and personalities. When the music is created with intention and heart, it becomes more than just background, it becomes a moment to be remembered and treasured for years to come.

How far should couples book in advance?

It is advisable to book at least 6 to 12 months in advance, though I have some couples who’ve booked more than 18 months in advance. To ensure I can provide the highest level of service, I limit the number of weddings I book per week, so I always encourage potential clients to secure their dates as quickly as possible.

What makes your service unique?

We specialise in music for Christian wedding ceremonies. We understand the flow of the ceremony and the importance of song selections for Christian weddings, which can differ from other ceremonies. We have a dedicated list of worship-centred music and are able to provide song suggestions for each part of a liturgy. We have played in many of Melbourne's most popular churches and understand their requirements, and are also able to offer our couples feedback on their church booklets.
After the formalities, we can seamlessly shift for the reception and the rest of festivities, to provide upbeat, soulful, jazzy music during dinner and a DJ and MC to keep the energy high.

We’re also happy to work with clients who want to get creative with their wedding music, and often blend medleys or write specific songs for our couples.

How do you write a song for a couple? Can you talk us through the process?

We start with an initial consultation with the couple, where we talk about their story, theme, preferred song style, reference tracks and instrumentation. After this, we draft the song melodies and lyrics and liaise with the couple to revise them. Then, once they’re happy, we record and produce the final product, which is mixed and mastered to ensure a professional sound.

How would you describe the couples you connect with the most?

The couples I connect with most are those who value creating memories, connection and meaning in their celebration. They care about more than just having good music, they want their wedding to feel personal, heartfelt and filled with love. They’re thoughtful and appreciate the little details that make their day truly their own.
