Jenny Hagidimou, owner of Melbourne jewellery store Top Image Jewellery, was studying psychology when she accidentally found herself working in the jewellery industry, and almost 30 years on she remains captivated by her chosen profession.
“Jewellery is so much more than something you wear, it’s a story, a memory, a symbol of love. That’s what continues to inspire me every day,” she says.
Heading a family-run team that includes Master Jewellers, CAD designers and diamond setters, graders and consultants, she proudly assists couples looking for one-of-a-kind engagement and wedding rings and guides them through the custom design process.
ABIA stepped behind the counter with Jenny to talk wedding ring trends, considerations and the steps that go into handcrafting a bespoke piece of jewellery.

Tell us about your business and wedding jewellery services.
Since 1995 Top Image Jewellery has specialised in creating custom-made pieces that are as unique and meaningful as the people who wear them. Every piece is handcrafted in Melbourne by our skilled team of Master Jewellers, diamond setters, diamond graders, CAD designers and diamond consultants.
As a family business we take great pride in our craftsmanship from the initial design and diamond selection to the final polish. For engagement rings and wedding bands, necklaces, bracelets, religious and baptism jewellery or milestone gifts for birthdays and anniversaries, we craft every piece with precision and care to ensure every detail reflects our commitment to quality.
How did you get started in the jewellery and wedding industries?
My journey into jewellery was completely unexpected. I was studying for my master’s in psychology when my partner needed help with his jewellery business. What started as lending a hand quickly became a passion — I was captivated by the artistry, detail and emotion behind every piece. I gained experience working alongside skilled jewellers and completed my diamond grading qualifications, combining technical knowledge with an eye for beauty and design. Over time, I was naturally drawn to the wedding industry and helping couples choose or design engagement rings and wedding bands — pieces that symbolise love and last a lifetime. I don’t physically make the jewellery, but I work closely with our Master Jewellers and clients to ensure every piece is crafted to perfection and holds deep personal meaning.

Where are you based and what locations do you service?
We’re based in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD and our central location makes it easy and convenient for clients across Victoria to visit. For those who can’t visit in person, we offer online consultations and Australia-wide shipping, so couples from anywhere can experience our craftsmanship and personalised service.
When did you first become interested in jewellery?
I’ve always had a natural love of jewellery, especially diamonds. They don’t lie when they say diamonds are a girl’s best friend! From a young age, I was fascinated by how something so small could hold so much beauty, meaning and emotion.
When I started working in the jewellery industry and saw firsthand how each piece was brought to life — from selecting the perfect diamond to watching it transform into a finished ring — I was captivated by the process, and by the emotions evoked. Seeing someone’s face light up when they see their piece for the first time is something I’ll never forget, and it’s what made me fall in love with this world.
Jewellery is so much more than something you wear, it’s a story, a memory, a symbol of love. That’s what continues to inspire me every day.

When did you know that you wanted to work with jewellery?
The pivotal moment for me was realising how powerful jewellery can be. It’s not just about creating something beautiful it’s about helping people celebrate love, milestones and memories that last forever. I fell in love with that emotional side of the craft, guiding clients through the design process, selecting their perfect diamond and watching their ideas come to life in the hands of our talented team. Being part of that creative journey, even behind the scenes, is incredibly rewarding.
How have jewellery design trends changed over the years?
I’ve been in the jewellery industry for almost 30 years and it’s been amazing to watch how trends continue to evolve. Jewellery, much like fashion, is always changing — one minute everyone wants yellow gold, then white gold takes over, and now we’re back full circle with yellow gold being the favourite again.
The same goes for diamond shapes. For a long time, round brilliant cuts were the go-to choice for engagement rings, but in recent years fancy shapes like ovals, emeralds and radiant cuts have truly taken centre stage. Clients today are also much more open to custom designs and adding personal touches, which makes the creative process so much fun.
At Top Image Jewellery, we love adapting to these changes. We cater to every client’s taste and style. Trends will always come and go, but what never changes is our commitment to crafting timeless pieces that our clients will cherish for life.

What design trends are you seeing in wedding jewellery at the moment?
Right now, oval diamonds are extremely popular for engagement rings. The majority of our couples are choosing this elegant and timeless shape. For wedding bands, classic diamond bands are always a favourite, but we’re also seeing a rise in plain gold or chunky bands, which offer a modern twist while still looking sophisticated. We always recommend choosing a timeless style that you’ll love for years to come, even as fashion trends evolve.
When it comes to other bridal jewellery, tennis necklaces and bracelets are very on-trend. Diamond studs or drop earrings are also incredibly popular as they’re classic, versatile and add just the right touch of sparkle.
For men, wedding rings are usually the focus, but we do also create men’s jewellery, like chains and bracelets which are often gifted by the bride or family.
What are the key pieces of wedding jewellery couples should consider?
The most important pieces for couples are, of course, the engagement ring and wedding bands, as these are worn every day and are a lifelong symbol of love. For brides, we also recommend considering an eternity band, which is a beautiful addition for a first-year anniversary or to complement a bridal stack.
Beyond rings, we love helping our couples select jewellery that can be worn long after the wedding day — pieces like tennis necklaces, diamond pendants, diamond studs and tennis bracelets are versatile, timeless and elegant.

What should couples consider when designing or choosing their wedding jewellery?
Timelessness is essential and we encourage our couples to opt for pieces that will still feel as beautiful and relevant decades on, as they do on their wedding day. Versatility matters too, so we like to create rings, bracelets or necklaces that can be worn multiple ways and enjoyed for both everyday wear and special occasions.
Diamond bands and plain gold bands are always popular because they’re classic, elegant and easy to wear. Gold and platinum are excellent precious metal choices as they not only hold their value, but they’re durable, hypoallergenic and offer lasting quality.
We work with real diamonds, whether natural or lab-grown, because as the saying goes, ‘diamonds are forever’. By choosing high-quality metals and diamonds and focusing on timeless designs, couples can create jewellery that is not only stunning but also durable and wearable for a lifetime.
Why should couples choose Top Image Jewellery for their engagement and wedding rings?
We believe that choosing a jeweller is about more than just the piece itself, it’s about the experience, trust and expertise that come with it. To that end we offer personalised, face-to-face consultations in our Melbourne showroom, as well as online appointments for clients across Australia, so we can guide our couples through the design process.
Our team includes Master Jewellers, diamond setters and expert diamond graders, and we work closely with every client to ensure their piece is crafted to the highest standards. We combine this expertise with a genuine passion for making jewellery that tells a story, whether it’s an engagement ring, wedding band or family heirloom.
Couples choose us because they want quality, craftsmanship and personal attention that lasts a lifetime. From free yearly cleaning and maintenance to honest advice about diamonds and metals, we’re committed to making each couple’s jewellery journey seamless and memorable.

How do you make the custom jewellery experience special and stress-free for couples?
We believe creating custom jewellery should be exciting, not stressful, so at Top Image Jewellery we ensure the process is clear, enjoyable and fully personalised. We start by understanding our couple’s story, style and preferences, then guide them through design sketches, 3D CAD models and wax proofs so that they can see their piece before it’s even made.
We provide expert advice on diamonds, metals and durability, and because everything is done in-house — from design to finishing — we can quickly make adjustments or refinements.
Ultimately, our goal is to make every couple feel confident, excited and cared for throughout their custom jewellery journey. By combining craftsmanship, transparency and personal attention, we create pieces that are as stress-free to design as they are unforgettable to wear.
What makes your service unique?
We genuinely adore our couples and handle every jewellery creation with passion, care and dedication and are here long after their purchase, with an in-house workshop to repair, resize, clean or maintain jewellery, and an offer of free yearly cleaning and maintenance.
Our diamond graders offer only the very best stones and give honest, informed guidance and thanks to the custom 3D CAD and wax models we use in our design process couples can see and approve bespoke jewellery pieces before they’re created.
How would you describe the couples that you connect with the most?
We connect most with couples who are thoughtful, sentimental and care about the story behind their jewellery as much as the piece itself.
We also love working with couples who are open to guidance and collaboration, whether that involves exploring different designs, choosing the perfect diamond or creating a custom piece that will be cherished for life.
Ultimately though, the couples we connect with most are those who value quality, craftsmanship and sentiment, and want jewellery that will tell their story for generations.
