Once you decide on a wedding style, finding a wedding venue to suit is the next step, and for many couples getting married in Perth, the combination of versatility and convenience on offer at Rothwood, makes it an ideal choice as a wedding ceremony and reception venue.

“We pride ourselves on BYO and DIY flexibility at Rothwood, which allows couples to choose their own wedding style,” owner Kevin Bennett explains.

The venue also blends picturesque gardens, a choice of indoor and outdoor ceremony and reception locations and onsite photography and accommodation options, making for a seamless wedding day experience.

Tell us about your venue and wedding services?

Oozing rustic charm and set on five acres of lush gardens, Rothwood offers couples the space and freedom to bring their wedding dreams to life, all in one stunning location. Couples can enjoy their ceremony, bridal photos, canapé hour, reception and even their first night together as a married couple without needing to leave the venue.

Being a BYO wedding venue, allowing full flexibility with catering and beverage options, helps ensure each wedding day can be completely personalised and reflective of a couple’s unique love story.

Our in-house wedding coordinator guides couples with genuine care and expert advice, offering planning meetings and helpful guidance, personalised wedding timelines and layouts, a curated list of trusted local vendors, on-the-day setup and coordination and next-day follow-up and aftercare.

We also offer multiple package options to suit various wedding styles, from intimate elopements to extravagant celebrations.

How did you begin hosting weddings?

When I purchased Rothwood in 2013 it had been an equestrian centre for 45 years and before that was the homestead on a property from which the entire suburb of Wattle Grove was subdivided.

In my first year at Rothwood, I undertook a major renovation with the intention of opening it as a bespoke Bed and Breakfast, but when my wife and I got married in the backyard it was such a  wonderful day that my wife’s niece asked if she could get married in the garden, which led to a friend of hers asking the same, and so our wedding venue dream began. We’ve hosted about 70 weddings to date.

What styles of weddings can you accommodate, and for what event sizes?

We pride ourselves on BYO and DIY flexibility at Rothwood, which allows couples to choose their own wedding style. We’ve hosted a variety of weddings, from casual picnic styles to sit-down formal black-tie receptions. Our maximum capacity is 100 guests.

What wedding packages do you offer and what’s included?

We offer wedding packages to suit different celebration styles. The Elopement allows for 90 minutes and up to 10 guests, The Bespoke includes four hours and up to 40 guests and The Exclusive caters for full day or weekend hire for 70 guests or more.

All wedding packages are customisable — with the option to add more guests or extend the time — and include exclusive use of the property with its choice of garden ceremony locations, an elegant marquee complete with climate-control and decorations, rustic stables lit with fairy lights, a cosy firepit and ample parking. Access to our collection of furniture, wedding arbours and wine barrels is also available, setup and pack down is handled by our team and professional serving, support and cleaning staff can be arranged at extra cost.

All couples who opt for The Exclusive package, can also add an overnight stay in the 1920's homestead, which provides onsite accommodation for up to 10 guests.

What spaces do you offer for wedding ceremonies?

Rothwood’s gardens offer a range of six stunning wedding ceremony locations which include spacious sweeping lawns and a secluded space beneath the branches of an ivy-tree covered tree. The firepit provides a warm, inviting ceremony option and The Stables offer a sheltered outdoor area that blends rustic charm with natural beauty.

What spaces do you have available for wedding receptions?

Our main lawn and ivy-tree ceremony settings both transition easily to relaxed drinks and outdoor celebration spaces, while our Washdown Bar also offers a charming outdoor location for socialising and relaxed canapés.

For a dining and dancing space suited to all weather and seasons, our clear-walled reception marquee offers festoon lighting, a built-in dancefloor and beautiful garden views, making it an ideal setting for all styles of wedding celebrations.

How far in advance should couples book your wedding venue?

For weekend weddings, we suggest booking as soon as possible, as we are already booking into 2027 for the most popular months. Mid-week weddings have more availability, and Thursdays are quickly becoming the new Friday wedding. Couples should discuss dates with us as soon as possible to secure their preferred day.

What advice do you have for couples looking for a wedding venue? What should they consider?

Our first words of advice are to check what is included and what is not, especially when visiting a wedding venue on an Open Day. Couples can be misled into believing what they see on the day is what is included.

Budget is also important. Anything can happen on your wedding day, and it all comes down to the budget. If we know your parameters, we can recommend vendors to suit. Couples should also consider what is most important to them, what they must have, and what they can compromise on within their budget.

Lastly, go with your gut feeling. A venue can feel different in person than it’s portrayed in brochures or on social media.

How can couples add their own flair? Do you have suppliers you can recommend?

Couples can decorate the venue however they like, and we offer staff assistance to set out decorations and pack them away at the end of the night. We also provide a curated list of trusted local suppliers for catering, styling, florals and entertainment.

What photographic opportunities are available onsite or in the area?

Our five-acre venue has been meticulously-designed with wedding photography in mind, and offers picturesque gardens with romantic walkways, flowing water, vibrant floral displays and mature trees with natural canopies that provide dappled shade.

It also combines elegant buildings and custom-designed features like ornate bridges, gazebos and arbours.

These onsite photographic opportunities mean couples don’t need to leave the venue for their wedding photos, which helps ensure a stress-free experience.

Do you offer overnight accommodation onsite?

Yes. The property’s 1920's homestead can be booked by couples. It offers five king-sized bedrooms, three bathrooms, a large kitchen and breakfast room, separate dining room, two living rooms and a popular make-up room. Heating, cooling and a swimming pool ensure guests are comfortable year-round.

Is Rothwood a pet-friendly wedding venue?

Yes. We love visits from fur babies. We have hosted llamas, dogs and even horses at our wedding ceremonies, and we would love to welcome baby cows next.

What makes your wedding venue and service standout?

Rothwood’s commitment to flexibility, creativity and exceptional service allows couples to enjoy a seamless, stress-free planning process. We welcome DIY decorations and BYO options, empowering couples to create a wedding day truly reflective of their style and love story. Our wedding coordinator also works personally with couples from their first visit to their final farewell.

Our staff also go ‘above and beyond’ for our couples on their wedding day. At a recent wedding rehearsal, we had a couple who practised a special knot-tying ceremony with a handmade rope, but on the day the rope was accidentally left behind in a bag. When our wedding coordinator noticed the rope, ran across the property and calmly handed it to the couple, saving the special moment from being missed. This is the sort of passion and commitment that sets us apart.

What was your favourite wedding?

One memorable wedding was a stunning budget-conscious celebration. The bride purchased glassware, vases and candle holders from op shops, transforming them into elegant decorations. She created a sophisticated aesthetic and showed how couples can achieve a wedding vision on almost any budget.

How would you describe the couples you connect with the most?

We connect with couples who value authenticity and humility. They appreciate honesty, simplicity and meaningful connections. They might be young or old, on a budget or not, but share a deep love for each other and a desire to celebrate their union genuinely. They enjoy Rothwood’s natural beauty, flexibility and relaxed atmosphere, and seek a space where they can express their unique style and personality.
