What to consider when searching for a wedding videographer

Based on trends, we find that wedding videographers are booked a little later in the wedding planning process. However, if wedding films are important to you, we suggest you begin looking for a wedding videographer at the same time you choose a wedding photographer, as the best videography brands tend to book out well in advance.

And, if you’re still weighing up the pros and cons, and wondering if a wedding videographer is worth it, here are some pointers and considerations to factor into your decision-making.

Wedding videographers have many different styles of filming — from documentary-style to artistic cinematic approaches — so think about the feel of your wedding and the particular videography style that might suit it best.

Wedding videographers should be able to make you feel relaxed in front of the camera, so it's essential to find someone who can help you feel at ease. With this in mind, it’s a good idea to arrange to meet them beforehand, to find out if your personalities match.

Does your videographer offer wedding photography too? It could be an idea to use the same vendor if they have the capability to offer both photos and filming. If not, your videography vendor may be able to recommend a wedding photographer that they work closely with.

Video Ideas

If you have any particularly notable video ideas for your wedding day, can they help you to achieve them? Be upfront, explain any special filming styles and techniques you especially like, and make your videographer aware of these before you hire them.

It's also worth thinking about:

- Whether editing is included, and in what formats. Do they offer a wedding teaser, highlight reel, ceremony edit, same-day edit or full feature?
- The videographer’s communication skills. Are they happy to answer your questions and respond promptly to emails?
- The videographer’s location. Is your videographer based within your area, or are they willing to travel?
- Does your videograper have recent wedding reviews? Researching the opinions and recommendations of other couples can be the best way to choose a wedding videographer that’s right for you.

How was this Queensland top list of wedding videographers compiled?

At ABIA Weddings, it is important to us that all wedding couples plan their special day with confidence, based on the recommendations of recently-married couples and their own real experiences. So, this list is solely based on the feedback of real customers who voted for their wedding videographer in the prestigious Queensland ABIA Wedding Awards. Of particular note, this list is not a compilation of businesses with the most Instagram followers, or those who paid to get their name on a list.

Since 1996, ABIA have asked real brides and grooms to rate their wedding vendors out of 100% for:

  • Quality of Product and Experience
  • Quality of Service and Communication
  • Value for Money
  • Attitude of Staff and Friendliness

The Queensland wedding videographers below are those that attained a combined rating of more than 95% in these categories, in order of achievement, and were announced as winners at the recent Queensland ABIA Wedding Awards.
