To describe The Manor Basket Range — a castle, honed of local sandstone and set within rolling hills and vineyards — one could easily assume it a location in Europe.
In reality, this stunning wedding ceremony and reception venue can be found just outside the South Australian capital of Adelaide, and its position and presence are just part of the attraction for couples seeking a unique, yet convenient, setting for their day.
“We have so many options and inclusions,” Wedding and Events Manager, Naomi Growden, explains. “From preparation spaces to onsite accommodation.”
We joined Naomi for a tour, to talk menus, practicalities and olde-English inspiration.

Where is your wedding venue located?
We are located in the beautiful hamlet of Basket Range, in the Adelaide Hills, just 25 minutes from Adelaide’s CBD. We are surrounded by rolling hills, orchards and vineyards.
How would you describe your wedding venue?
The Manor itself was inspired by England’s Warwick Castle, and was hand-built of local sandstone, so it’s a one-of-a-kind backdrop. We also offer in-house catering, multiple indoor and outdoor event spaces, onsite dressing and preparation rooms, a ceremony garden and 12 beautiful townhouses to accommodate guests. We only ever host one event per day, so our wedding couples have full private access.

What are some of your package inclusions?
We can take care of everything, from initial event planning meetings, right through to the full set up of the function space. Furniture for ceremony and reception areas, catering and waitstaff, dinnerware, glassware, linen, and a PA system and speakers all form part of our inclusions. And our team can cater for a range of dining styles, from cocktails and canapes to sit-down, alternate-drop or shared-choice menus.
How many guests can you cater to?
We can accommodate a maximum of 180 for sit-down events, and 220 for cocktail-style occasions.

Describe your ceremony and reception spaces.
The Ceremony Garden is a private, walled area, complete with a petite chapel, a cobblestone path and 60 French-bistro style chairs.
The Terrace Room seats up to 120 and features stone walls, arched French-provincial windows, an open fireplace, wooden beams and garden views.
The adjoining Outdoor Terrace offers an expansion of this space and is used for pre-dinner canapes and as a wet weather option for ceremonies.
The large Ballroom seats around 180 guests and combines a beautiful oak floor, stone feature walls, a stage and dance floor, a separate bar area, a fireplace, wooden beams and stained-glass windows.
While the Parlour Room offers an intimate space with one large table, seating up to 22 guests.

What is your venue’s point of difference?
We offer so many options and inclusions for our couples and have onsite spaces for everything from pre-wedding preparation to overnight accommodation for up to 46 guests.
What advice do you have for couples looking for a wedding venue?
Make sure your venue has a great Plan B, in case of wet weather, and find out how much time the venue needs to put the plan into place. You can’t choose the weather for your wedding day, so you want to make sure it won’t cause too much stress.
Also, make sure there are no hidden costs in addition to a venue’s package inclusions. Sometimes services like set-up and pack-down are not included, so it’s a good idea to look for a venue with very transparent pricing.

Is there a wedding you’ve hosted that stands out?
There are so many, but one particularly memorable one was a destination wedding. The couple’s guests came from all over the country, East and West, and didn't know where the wedding was being held until a bus picked them up and delivered them to our castle in the Adelaide Hills!
