How to go Bridesmaids Dress shopping with the COVID-19 restrictions?
The Coronavirus pandemic feels like a big slap in the face to the wedding industry.
We certainly weren't preparing for something like this particularly during the lead up to a busy selling season for upcoming spring summer 2020/2021 weddings.
There are definitely some advantages of being a small business. As it allows us to pivot and innovate very quickly.
The 'Borrow a Bridesmaids Dress' Idea
During this Coronavirus craziness we have implemented a "Borrow A Bridesmaids Dress " idea - So our clients can still try on dresses in the comfort of their own home, whilst we offer virtual fittings.
Think of it like when you borrow books at the library. Instead of borrowing books, brides and bridesmaids are borrowing our dresses "on loan to try".
Select 10 Bridesmaids Dress Styles
Bridesmaids Dressing Room are allowing brides to borrow up to 10 dresses from our showroom. Brides can initially discuss and develop a "shortlist of favourites" by looking at the bridesmaids dresses online on our website.
Then we arrange a one-on-one meeting with the bride to pick up the dresses (or we post them out if appropriate).
Afterwards the dresses get passed from girl to girl to try on in the comfort of their own home.
How does it work, is there a cost?
It involves FaceTime, Skype, Messenger or Zoom!
We have been organising a mutually suitable time with the bridesmaids to guide them through the measurement process.
They have a measuring tape on their end and we have a measuring tape on our end. We instruct them via either FaceTime, Skype, Facebook Messenger, Zoom or WhatsApp. We have adapted to using lots of different video platforms, to help our clients make the process really easy.
We have asked our brides to leave a holding deposit for each bridesmaids dress that they borrow just to act as security, to ensure that our beautiful gowns are returned back safely to us. After the dresses have arrived back we then return the holding bond to the bride.

During this isolation time, we have also sent bridesmaid dresses interstate to Adelaide, to run the same process virtually with those bridesmaids.
Although this pandemic has hit us hard, doing virtual measurements is certainly nothing new for our business.
We have had numerous bridal parties over the years use our unique service. We have bridesmaids that have either lived interstate or overseas, so we have in the past conducted Skype and WhatsApp calls to countries including UK, Dubai, Canada, Singapore and the USA just to name a few!

We once even helped a bridal party in rural Queensland, where the four bridesmaids drove from all different parts of Queensland (some up to 3 hours away) to meet at the brides house.
We sent a selection of dresses to the bride's house and they organised the date of Megan and Harry's Wedding as the "bridesmaids dress up day".
We organised a virtual consultation to run through the process as we normally would in our physical showroom.
Each of the girls took turns trying on the variety of dresses, and selected their favourite gown.
We then proceeded to individually measure each girl to ensure that the correct sizes were ordered. After the dresses were returned to us, we placed the order. Three months later the dresses arrived and we sent them to the bride in Queensland....that's why we say "cut out the stress and find the perfect dress" :)
Human Connection is important.
Even though we have a fully functioning online store for bridesmaids dresses, we are finding that people still want that human connection. The guidance, the advice, the discussions, the humour, the fun times of trying on dresses.
Some of our brides struggle to visualise what the dresses will look like on the girls whilst others are concerned about "stuffing up the sizes" online.
Certainly when you're planning a wedding you don't want to get these things wrong, particularly when you're ordering made-to-order dresses - because you really only have one shot at getting it right!
Wedding Planning During Isolation.
We've had lots of fun doing video calls and "playing virtual dress ups" during this time in forced Coronavirus isolation.
One of our brides, Cristal, who recently went through this process, expressed to us "I thought this whole thing was going to be really stressful. But thanks to you Aneta, for making the whole process so easy and enjoyable".
Basically all we have done is take our ethos and the values that we pride ourselves in within our business and translated that into a more virtual way of working.
Although the logistics are a little bit more complicated, we've proven it's certainly not impossible to keep trading during a pandemic. In the words of Marie Forleo - "everything is figureoutable!" (Another Marie Forleo fan!)
