For Taylor Venables, of Adelaide-based wedding photography service Photos by Taylor Dianne, the process of becoming a professional wedding photographer was essentially the extension of her lifelong passion.

“I’ve had a camera in hand since I can remember,” the talented photographic artist explains.

It’s Taylor’s calming approach, and authentic photographic style and editing that she sees as her points of difference though, and which have her taking bookings a year in advance.

ABIA talked with Taylor about photographic inspiration, her favourite locations and the popularity of her retro photographic style offerings.

Tell us about your business and wedding photography services?

I offer documentary editorial-style wedding photography services and engagement photoshoots and specialise in capturing candid, meaningful moments. Photos by Taylor Dianne aims to deliver stunning, true-to-life imagery that celebrates each love story with heart and honesty using true-to-colour editing.

How did you get started in the wedding industry?

I’ve had a camera in hand since I can remember, so becoming a professional wedding photographer was a simple transition. I love working with couples and being a part of their special day, and creating a space for them to feel happy and comfortable to have such important images taken — they are memories that will last forever and I understand that significance.

Where are you based and what locations do you service?

I’m based in Adelaide, but service the whole of South Australia and nationwide.

Where do you get your creative inspiration?

I believe in capturing the unique moments and essence of a couple’s special day, so the day, the vibe and how the couple interacts provides my inspiration for wedding photos.

Have you noticed any recent trends in wedding photography?

Yes, lots of couples are looking to include retro-photography styles as part of their wedding photography package, so I offer Super 8 film and 35 mm film options as add-ons.

What’s the craziest wedding photo you’ve ever taken?

A couple exit photo that I took while riding on the back of a car boot at a country wedding venue. It was epic and full of fun, chaos and happiness.

Do you have a favourite photographic location?

I shot a private ceremony at Mount Lofty Summit, which has amazing views of the Adelaide skyline and coast, and is one of my favourite locations for wedding photography.

What do you do when it rains?

If it rains I go with it and use the weather as an opportunity to shoot wedding photos that are fun and different.

What do you suggest couples should look for in a wedding photographer, and how far in advance should they book?

When a couple is looking for a wedding photographer it’s a good idea to look at the photographic style and editing, to ensure they like it. It’s also important that they find someone they vibe with and I’m happy to meet with my couples, so that they can get to know the person who’ll be capturing their special memories. I’ve already got bookings 12 months in advance, so I suggest booking a photographer at least 12 months before the wedding date.

Do you have a favourite wedding?

My favourite wedding was an intimate micro-wedding. It was a small ceremony with the bride, the groom, their mums, the celebrant and myself, which was followed by a dinner and a party with their closest friends — it was a simple occasion filled with love, fun and happiness that shone through in the images.

How would you describe the couples you connect with the most?

They’re fun, warm, full of love and more interested in having me capture the emotions of the day, rather than striking poses.

What makes your wedding photography unique?

My sharp eye for detail and my passion for true-to-colour editing enable me to ensure every photo reflects the raw emotions and natural interactions of each couple’s wedding day. My calm, unobtrusive presence also allows couples to relax and be themselves, resulting in timeless images that they treasure forever.
