A moment with 'Royal Weddings'
ABIA meets Brisbane wedding floral stylist and designer Avin Zandi
@zakshots
The transition from working in finance to working with flowers was life-changing for Brisbane-based floral stylist and designer Avin Zandi, of Royal Weddings, who discovered her passion for florals while looking for a role that would allow more time with her young family.
“Delving into the world of creativity opened a whole new door for me. I immersed myself in learning about floral art, colours and textures, which I found incredibly fulfilling,” Avin explains.
These days, her fascination with flowers remains, and she draws upon it to create beautiful artificial floral arrangements, installations and decorations for wedding ceremonies and receptions.
ABIA sat down with this busy wedding stylist to talk about her customised approach, her wedding packages and the reasons she loves decorating weddings with silk flowers.

Tell us about your business and wedding services.
At Royal Weddings Brisbane, we specialise in creating bespoke floral designs tailored to each couple’s unique vision. As a wedding stylist I focus on crafting beautiful and luxurious event settings that reflect personal style, and as a mother of four I understand the importance of creating memorable moments for families.
We work closely with our couples to understand their ideas and dreams, beginning with a custom design consultation, and combining our offerings of event and furniture displays, floral art and arrangements, full-service planning and coordinated theming to transform venues into stunning settings that celebrate love and joy.
How did you get started in the wedding industry?
I started my journey in the wedding industry when I realised that continuing my career in finance wasn't feasible, especially with three little ones under one. Taking a break from the 9-to-5 grind allowed me to explore new avenues, and I discovered my true passion for florals and wedding design. Initially, it was a time of reflection and adjustment, but delving into the world of creativity opened a whole new door for me. I immersed myself in learning about floral art, colours and textures, which I found incredibly fulfilling. As I collaborated with couples to create memorable experiences, I felt a sense of purpose that I hadn't experienced in my previous career. This unexpected journey led me to Royal Weddings Brisbane, which allows me to combine my love for design and my desire to help others celebrate their love stories. Each wedding I work on is an opportunity to share in the joy of my clients and bring their dreams to life.

Where are you based and what locations do you service?
We are currently based in Rocklea in Brisbane and proudly service a variety of locations throughout the region. Our services extend to beautiful venues in Brisbane, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast, allowing us to cater to couples looking to celebrate their love in a range of stunning settings. Whether a chic urban wedding or a serene beach ceremony, we are dedicated to making each event special and unique in any location.
What inspired you to start working with flowers?
As a child, I often enjoyed spending time in gardens and admiring blooms, but it wasn’t until later in life, and my journey into the wedding industry, that I truly found my passion for florals.
When I began exploring floral design, I felt an immediate connection to the intricate artistry involved. The ability to use colours, textures and various floral types to create unique arrangements was both exciting and fulfilling.
Working with flowers isn’t just about aesthetics, it’s about evoking emotions and creating lasting memories for special occasions.

What sorts of wedding arrangements and styling do you offer?
We offer a wide range of wedding arrangements and styling options, focusing primarily on artificial florals. This allows for stunning designs that remain vibrant and fresh throughout the event. Our floral arrangements and styling services include ceremony flowers, like aisle markers, altar arrangements or arches and all floral décor for the ceremony space, plus table centrepieces and florals for the reception venue, all customised to the needs and visions of our couples.
Do you offer wedding packages?
Yes, I offer various packages tailored to meet the unique needs of each bridal couple. Typically this includes:
- An initial consultation to discuss vision, style preferences and colour schemes.
- Ceremony florals – like aisle decorations, decorative arbours and alter flowers
- Reception florals – like table arrangements and floral installations
- Styling and design
- Delivery and setup
I also provide a customised proposal, or detailed quote, that itemises all floral arrangements and services, so that all pricing is transparent and couples are fully aware of what they’re receiving at what cost.

Where do you source your artificial florals?
We source our artificial ‘real touch’ florals from highly-regarded suppliers in Australia, to ensure that all our silk flowers are high-end and of the finest quality.
Why do you suggest couples opt for artificial flowers on their wedding day? What are their advantages over fresh florals?
Artificial flowers offer myriad advantages for a wedding day, enhancing both the aesthetic and logistical aspects of the celebration.
Silk flowers possess a timeless beauty that remains vibrant throughout the event and ensures that the arrangements look as exquisite at the end of the day as they did at the beginning. Their consistent quality also alleviates any concerns about wilting or fading.
They also provide unparalleled opportunities for personalisation, providing couples with an extensive array of colours and designs, free from the constraints of seasonal availability. They also tend to be more cost-effective and can serve as cherished keepsakes long after the celebration has ended.

At what stage of the planning process should couples be looking at wedding flowers, and how far in advance should they book?
It’s advisable to start discussing floral options about three to six months before the wedding date. This timeline allows couples to research florists, explore design ideas and budget appropriately. Meeting with florists early in the wedding planning process enables couples to get a sense of the options available and to incorporate floral arrangements into their overall wedding theme.
As for booking a florist, we generally suggest securing a floral vendor at least six months in advance, especially during peak wedding seasons, to ensure availability and allow ample time to finalise details, discuss specific requests and make any adjustments.
What makes your service stand out?
What makes our offering particularly unique is our commitment to customisation. Each arrangement is tailored specifically for each couple, to align perfectly with their vision and preferences. We take pride in crafting beautiful, bespoke floral designs that not only look stunning but also maintain a quality and realism that sets us apart in the industry.
